My boyfriend Patrick works at a restaurant making breakfast behind a diner style counter. A few weeks ago he was asked to no longer wear his bandadas. The reason was because 1 customer saw him cooking behind the counter and said he looked like "a prisoner with a doo-rag." Little did that guy know that the other cook, Amy, is currently on parole and the restaurant gets paid by the state to employ her. If there's anyone to be careful around it would be her, not my innocent boyfriend that only wore it to absorb sweat so it wouldn't go in the food. How fair is that??
And now my boyfriend's hours got cut because it's getting into the slow season. Not cut because he's the worst cook, but because Amy gets 40 hours...because the restaurant actually makes money when she's working. The state pays them $10 an hour to employ her but her hourly wage is less than that, so they profit every hour she works. Naturally, from an employers point of view that would be ideal, but she is the worst cook on the line. Probably because she doesn't really care or want to work there, it's just a job to pass the time for her. So, guys like my boyfriend have to suffer and struggle to pick up hours just to get 30 in a week. ARGH!! IT'S NOT FAIR!!!
